A Little Bit Late...but Still Done

Well my post is a little late, my bad. haha anyways ya that class that i didnt write my blog on, it was a work period. We worked on getting our study guides ready or accelerated math, which i might add is going to be shut down today at lunch to all students not just our class. Hope you all got your assignments done for Mr.Max. It was a good year and i hope that next year is even better and we dont have as much accelerated math haha. Thanks Mr. Max for teaching us and a big thanks from me for putting up with me once again. See ya next year big guy have a great summer.

Monday june 18

Well it s my turn to blog again and it looks to be the last time. We started class with mental math and we also handed in are currency conversion homework that we did last week. We then did a voted if accelerated math should stay or go next year somehow it turned out to be 7 stay 7 go so the voting did not help any. After that we talked about the exam there will be around 30 to 60 multiple choice and will be worth 40% and the other part will be 4 to 5 questions but you can choice from 6 or 7 questions. Also you can bring a study guide to the exam but it can only be the size of the regular paper. You can use exel graph matica BUT YOU CAN NOT USE THE BLOG OR INTERNET.

Acc. Math Question About Measures of Interior Angles,

So I was supposed blog last week, and I had no idea. My bad, so here is my blog. Captian Kolan came up to me today and asked me to help him with this accelerated math question. The question was:

"Find the measure of an interior angle of a regular heptagon. Round to the nearest degree, if necessary."

A) 129 degrees

B) 120 degrees

C) 903 degrees

D) 140 degrees

To do this question you need to use the formula "(n-2)*180" to find out what the sum of the interior angles are. n is the number of sides that the figure has. A heptagon has 7 sides....so...

(7-2)*180= 900

Now that you know that the sum of the interior angles is 900 degrees you take 900 and divide it by 7.

900/7=129

So the answer is A) 129 degrees

I hope this might help you guys a bit, and good luck on the exam!

Currency Table

Use this one as reference for doing currency conversions:

Currency conversions

Today we did mental math and corrected the 2 questions from yesterday. a) Was 135.31 and b) 26.31.

......the process of getting the answers

http://www.xe.com/ is a website that has the currency rates without the bank markups, just the rates.

Our assignment is to do A,B, C, using the currency chart that is already on the blog.

It would be a good idea to make a spreadsheet to do all this for you so you don’t have to do it again except change the rates.

June 11 2007

At the beginning of class Mr. Max wrote on the board explaining what were going to be this week, here is the schedule:
MONDAY: currency conversions... notes/example
TUESDAY: " "
WEDNESDAY: show up in the resource center SIGN IN!!!
THURSDAY: " "
FRIDAY: class is here, work period.. SUB CLASS!!!

Mr. Max then told us what we will be working today and tomorrow. It is Currency Conversion here is what he wrote:

This is the currency table for differant places from the TD Bank

Mr. Max then asked us a question here is the question:

We then got assigned a homework question to help us learn how to figure out the currency.

Hello Fellow Class Mates,

This is Captain Kolan, I was not here on thursdays class sorry, and im sorry for how late this post is but better late then never. From what I have gathered on thursdays class was a work period that started with a challenging mental math. Remember about the 62 objectives due and dont stop working on them because 2 weeks and then we will be worrying about writing exams already. Time flys when your having fun! Well I don't really have to much useful stuff for you but I thought Id leave you with something math related. http://www.geocities.com/capecanaveral/lab/2619/comics.html

Hope you enjoy the comics!

June 8th 2007

Today we started out with Mr.Max telling us that there was no mental math...and then the rest of the class we have time work on accelerated math. We have to finish 62 objectives and we have until lunch time before Swanapalooza. During our work class Mr. Marshall came in and told us that we had a math test, he told us not to look at it and keep it face down. Then he told us to look at it then he walked out.
Our math test for the day was a little joke that said "You hunt and gather and still find time to blog?" with two cavemen and one drawing on the wall....
Dont forget your 62 objectives

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Hello classmates,

Today we started off with mental math. It was alright to me. Mr Max was happy because he got his pen fixed. That didn't take long either because he broke it Monday and got it back Wednesday. That very impressive to me.

For the rest of the class we went on a Participation Walk, it was an all right walk. We went down to the Legion Park and around there then to the Skating Rink. If you had money you could of went and bought a hot dog. But there was on problem kids were skipping the walk and driving there trucks and cars instead. That was bad by the looks of the teachers. I think everyone should of went on the walk and not skip because we were doing that as a school thing.

June 5/07

Well today we had a work period, but it was kind of a secret or he tried to make it that way anyways. We had to write down the work we did yesterday on a piece of paper and hand it in for marks. I wasnt here yesterday so im just wondering Mr. Max what do I do for this assignment? Seemed lke today Max was not in a good mood which sucks cause when i see someone in a bad mood it kind of turns around my mood! just a thought anyways!

Monday june 04/07

Today we did mental math in the begining of class, then we finished our tax template questions. I had some trouble but nothing i couldnt figure out, hopefully it went the same if not better for all of you. 62 objectives is the new thing in mental math, wow thats alot. Anyways have a good day.

Tax Template

We started class to day with mental math. We then started doing are tax template. He then told us to due a question 5 on page 31 for homework. We are supposed do it on paper and not the excel template. We Got sidetracked again today with were we should park I know he wanted me to write something on the blog that happened in class but I forget what he said.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

may 29

Today we started with mental math. Then we began to work on our Statement And Demand For Taxes…but then the fire alarm interrupted us, sadly. But once everyone got back to the class room we carried with what we were doing. We learnt how to calculate Total Portioned Assessment.
Total Port. Asses=total asses. X 45% (round to nearest 10$)

After that we Mr. Maxx found this nifty website http://www.gov.mb.ca/ia/programs/property_assessment/search_township_range.html. We got sidetracked a bit but it was fun. We then bought a house in Calgary. It was a nice place, few bedrooms, bathroom, generally a nice neighbourhood. We then used the TM and figured how much it will cost to buy in 25 years if mortgage rates were to go up and it came out to be around a million dollars. Wow. Kind of puts things in perspective.

Monday May 28, 2007

Today we started off the class with another mental math quiz. Some people learned that Gary Doer is the premier of Manitoba.

Then the rest of the block was working with our property tax template. Mr. Max was showing us the formulas to put in the template. It is a little confusing now, but once it is done it will be very useful.

Everyone should still be working on accelerated math, because the school year is getting close to an end.

Friday, May 25, 2007

May 25th/07

Hey everyone, today we worked on our property tax templates, then if we were done we could do Accelerated math. At 11:45 we did Mental math. Mr max is also marking the wikis so cross your fingers. Then we finished mental math at 12:01 (im looking at the clock as i write this) And thats the end of the class. Hope you all got your Templates done.

may 24

This class started off with mental math...
After we were done that we had to make a spreadsheet without any formulas. It had to be ready to put formulas in it. The format it had to be in is on page B-7 and B-9. Accelerated math should be worked on as usual.

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Hey what is up block 3 applied math class! It is Captain Kolan speaking on a important news update.

Today May 23 we started off the class with a good old mental math, then we took a look at our camper question and learned the proper way to make the spreadsheet for it. I have to wait to put pictures on here, because Mr. Max had to leave class for a moment and I wasnt able to get any pictures of the formulas I apologize but I will get them as soon as possible.

I also found this game some of you might have heard of its kinda neat it asks you questions and you can never beat it or I couldnt anyways, try it out haha http://www.stuff.co.uk/think.html

I hope you enjoy,
Captain Kolan

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Well some how I got the shortest class ever to blog and after mental math we had about 20 Min's to work. We have a "buy a camper" question and it is due at the end of class. So it is a work period and I have no idea what to write about.

Preparing to Study: A Good Study Place
You need a good study place to be prepared to study. You should be able to answer YES to all of the following questions:

1. Is my Study Place available to me whenever I need it?
Your Study Place does you little good if you cannot use it when you need it. If you are using a Study Place that you must share with others for any reason, work out a schedule so that you know when you can use it.

2. Is my Study Place free from interruptions?
It is important to have uninterrupted study time. You may have to hang a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door or take the phone off the hook.

3. Is my Study Place free from distractions?
Research shows that most students study best in a quiet environment. If you find that playing a stereo or TV improves your mood, keep the volume low.

4. Does my Study Place contain all the study materials I need?
Be sure your Study Place includes reference sources and supplies such as pens and pencils, paper, ruler, calculator, and whatever else you might need. If you use a computer for your schoolwork, it should be in your Study Place .

5. Does my Study Space contain a large enough desk or table?
While working on an assignment or studying for a test, use a desk or table that is large enough to hold everything you need. Allow enough room for writing and try to avoid clutter.

6. Does my Study Place have enough storage space?
You need enough room to store your study materials. Be sure you have enough storage space to allow you to keep your desktop or other work surface clear of unnecessary materials that can get in the way.

7. Does my Study Place have a comfortable chair?
A chair that is not comfortable can cause discomfort or pain that will interfere with your studying. A chair that is too comfortable might make you sleepy. Select a chair in which you can sit for long periods while maintaining your attention.

8. Does my Study Place have enough light?
The amount of light you need depends on what you are doing. The important thing is that you can clearly see what you need to see without any strain or discomfort.

9. Does my Study Place have a comfortable temperature?
If your Study Place is too warm, you might become sleepy. If it is too cold, your thinking may slow down and become unclear. Select a temperature at which your mind and body function best.
Having a good Study Place is important for good studying.

Friday, May 18, 2007

Today we started out by doing a homework check. Out of the 39 marks available we only got 9 all together so Mr. Max decided that he wouldn’t put it on our marks. After that he talked about how after growing older we were taught to be afraid to make mistakes.
After our discussions we went over the question we were supposed to do.

The assignment that we were given today is due on tuesday at the end of the class.
Mr. Max asked me to include this definition-
Amortization- The gradual reduction of a debt by periodic payments over the term of the loan.

Thursday, May 17, 2007

May 17th?

Today we did mental math, then we disscused the blog posts from the other day. The quad question is due tomorow and mr max should have posted it. So make sure you do the question!

Buy A Quad!

Your instruction is to come up with a solution for this problem...Use the TVM Solver, for the beginning of class tomorrow:

ex. Chuck needs a new quad. He secures financing at the local Credit Union for 7.5%. He will borrow the money for 24 months, and interest will be compounded monthly. If the quad, before taxes, retails for $11 398. PST and GST need to applied.

a) Calculate his monthly payment

b) Calculate his total repaid over the 24 months.

c) If he was able to put a down payment on the quad of $1000, how would this affect his monthly payment specifically?

May 16, 2007

Today we started class off by doing some mental math, and then we corrected the simple and compound interest questions. Mr.Max then showed us a way to use our calculators to solve compound interest, amortized loans, and payout annual ties, called the tvm solver. We were then given an assignment on teams to explain what it is, how it works, and why it is useful.

In a room full of 23 people, there is a 50% chance that two people have the same birthday.
apparantly this is true, i cant explain it but if you want an expanation go to...http://www.factme.com/cgi-bin/facts_redirect.pl?factID=13&url=http://mathworld.wolfram.com/BirthdayProblem.html

Clarification of JBomb's Earlier Post (Which is a great conversation starter, by the way)...

Funny how my comments might be viewed with a question mark or two (not to mention raised eyebrows)..if anyone read your post without a bit of context clarification on my part. I did discuss redundancy in education, but from a current methods perspective versus what schools look like even maybe in a dozen or so years....My point, to be clear, is that it is my opinion that my role as a classroom teacher will change dramatically during the course of the 20+ years I have left until my retirement. I really believe that things like internet connectivity are being taking for granted (good or bad), and that this connectivity will have serious implications for the delivery of (for example) secondary school mathematics content intstruction. My point was NOT that I'll be replaced by a computer or a robot (which I think is really silly), but that my role as a teacher is becoming less and less a "lecture/teach everybody the same thing" teacher, and more and more a "personal learning manager"...I see a future where younger and younger kids start to become more and more responsible for their own educations, by deciding what they're good at, what they love, and more importantly, what they need to get better at, and have a professional (like me) to interact with daily to build skills in a variety of areas to make our society / civilization better ....

Grandiose? Naive? Probably, but I'd love to have this discussion with students or anyone else for that matter........

May 15

The class began with mental math. After mental math Mr. Max went around the room and checked our simple and compound interest homework. Time ran out so he couldn’t go over the answers so we then just had the last 10 minutes of class as work time. We also talked about the redundancy of being a teacher now a days.

Compound Interest

Today was a short block class so we didn't do any mental math. Instead we started into Compound Interest. Compound Interest is a bit more complicated then Simple Interest, and if you are the one borrowing the money, it's not good! Unfortunatly the coursework drive wasn't working today so we didn't get to use some programs we normally would. Although these promgrams were not working Mr.Max showed us the difference between simple and coumpound interest.

As you can see compound interest is interest that is calculated many times (either re-borrowed or re-lent).
This picture shows how compund interest will add up to a lot more money very quickly.
This final picture shows the formula for compound interest. A is the amount of interest. P is the principal or amount invested. R is the interest rate. T is the time it is invested for, and N is the number of interest compoundings per year.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

May 10

We started math with mental math number 22

Max jumped us right in to Interest. We were given the task to find the definition of interest and we had to send them to his computer using Novel, we came up with quite a few definitions and the best one was: Money charged by a lender to a borrower for the use of his or her money. There is an interest formula called the simple interest formula I=(p)(r)(t) {Interest=principal*Rate*Time}. We worked on a spread sheet to lay out the formulas on simple interest formulas.

We got an assignment due for monday Pg E-9 Ex) #2; questions 1-11

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

So today we started out talking about if a lap top is a toy or a helpful device or an older lab top. Well I think it helps us out during class and we can learn a lot more with a lab top. We added on from yesterday class about the lap top. Here's a question for my classmates. Is a lab top a toy or is it a helpful device?

We didn't do any Mental Math today. For the rest of the class we work on are budget question's for the people who weren't done it and if you were done it, we worked on are Accelerated Math questions. If your all done that I don't know What you could work on. Ask Mr. Max what do to after your done.

So about the lab top thing. What would do if the school took all the lab tops away and computers? Please comment about those two question. Well I'm going to say if they took all of the lab tops away and computers we would all be sick of reading from text books. The teachers would be sick of teaching us stuff that we could of learned off of the web. That we could of learned from a computer. We also couldn't use the cool problems like Graphmatica etc. and we would have to do work by hand to. Hilary has a good point. If you hadn't read her blog go read.
Well I'm going to shut up now and do some of my own work and get caught up. So see ya.

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Tuesday, May 08

We started off the day doing another mental math quiz, and then we started working on our budget case studies #1-#5. They are all due by the end of the class tomorrow, and you have to show Mr. Max each of them separately so he knows that you have done them right.

Mr. Max brought up a good point in class. Are laptops useful in class or not? I can see peoples reasonings for both points. Laptops can be useful in class by taking notes especially if you have bad writing. Another reason why they might be useful is if you didn't understand something, so you could look it up without even needing to ask a teacher. Technology is so big now that not too many people don't own a computer.

A Reason why laptops may not be useful in class is because of the distraction. Many students play games on them, meaning they aren't listening to what the teacher is saying.

I can understand why some people may think differently about this topic, let me know your thoughts on this subject by commenting to this blog.

Friday, May 4, 2007

may 4th

Today we didnt do mental math, we started off by Mr.Max showing us some things to do to our spreadsheet. I cant really show on here what we did so if anybody needs to know just ask me cause i saved it. He showed us some vocabulary words to describe how often you do something. There is a list of them in blue writing right below this.

The wiki is due on monday and we should start working on the 5 case studies because they are for marks, accelerated math(obj.56) is also due monday so a guy could say we got alot of work to be doing.

The rest of the class we got time to work on whatever we had to do to get everything done.

And just to throw in a comment about the cell phones i dont think teachers could possibly ban them from school, kids these days rely on there phones for alot of communication so i figure as long as kids have friends they will have phones to beable to talk to eachother.

Thursday, May 3, 2007

May 03/2007

Well today we were working on the budget thing. We were told to brain storm a bunch of household things that cost money per month. We came up with so many ideas it was crazy. Mr Max. tought us how to wor a budget on the spreadsheet. The big thing was that we have to pay attention on what he is doing when he is doing the spreadsheet. This is one of those times were we wroked on one thing all class. These days are actually good on short blocks. I think anyways what do you guys think??

Wednesday, May 2, 2007

May 2,2007

Today Mr.Max gave us a work period to work on our Wiki spaces and he also needed time to clean the room or he calls it "The Bird Cage" because he was teaching teachers today at noon. Our Wikis are due on FRIDAY at 3:40 and that means that your assignment is complete...done!!! Im having alittle bit of trouble on my Wiki because I dont really know how to start it, I wanted to look at last years Wikis but I dont know where to go for it so if any of ya guys know where to go please let me know...!

Budget

It looks like my turn to blog today. We started the class off by mental math. Today was the last day of those green sheets so you had to turn them in.

For most of the class we learnt how to make a spread sheet on the income that a family would make in a year month or week. We didn’t really start any thing we just got or spread sheet ready for tomorrow.

Remember we should have 56 objectives done by Friday in accelerated math. Also the Wiki assignment in due on Friday May 4.

Monday, April 30, 2007

Monday, April 30

Today we started the class off with another mental math quiz. If anyone wants to see it, just ask and I can put it up later.

Our wiki assignment is due Friday, May 4th and Mr. Max has a challenge for us. For bonus marks or a credit of some kind we can put in multimedia of some kind such as video, audio, a powerpoint, slideshare, and etc....

Another thing that is due is our accelerated math, we have to be done up to 56 objectives by Monday, which is the end of the geometry unit.

Today was a work class to get caught up on all of our assignments, but one thing that Mr. Max did bring up was about the cell phone banning in schools.

In my opinion, I don't think that would be the smartest idea because as a student I don't think that many students would even listen to that rule. Teachers would just be getting frustrated all day about telling the kids to put away their phone. I know that I would probably still bring my phone to school even though they were banned. If anyone has any thoughts or opinions about this topic, leave a comment and we can talk about this subject more.

Thursday, April 26, 2007

April 26, 2007

Today I have to do the blog….it s been awhile. So I think I will review some of the geometry we have been learning for the past week or so.

There are a total of 7 circle theorems.

Other relevant information include the following. These are a few geometry words and there meanings.

Congruent: Same size and shape

Equal: Refers only to quantities or amounts (measurable by number)

Bisect: To divide into 2 congruent parts

Supplementary: To have a sum of 180*

Complementary: To have a sum of 90*

The homework assignment we were assigned is either do today or if you need the extra time you may hand it in on Monday.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Tuesday, April 24, 2007

April 23,2007

Ok, today Mr.Max is back so we started the class off with mental math. It was based on the 7 circle theorems we are learning. After that we discussed the importance of keeping updated on our blog. If you want to start a feedburner or blogger account you can do that to keep updated. After that we had the rest of the period to work on whatever we wanted. The 7 theorems are due on Thursday.
Here are some definitions we are supposed to know…

Round- Spherical or Globular shape

Chord- A line segment that connects two points on a curve.

Diameter- the longest distance from one end of a circle to the other.

Circumference- the distance around the circle.

Arc- A portion of the circumference of a circle.

Inscribed Angle- An angle placed inside a circle with its vertex on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle.

Secant- a line going through two points of a circle and keeps on going

Central- in, at or near the middle

Segment- one of the parts of a divided area

Collinear- Points are collinear if they lie on the same line.

Congruent- Figures or angles that have the same size and shape.

Perpendicular- Two lines are perpendicular if the angle between them is 90 degrees.

Tangent- when a line touches a circle in a single spot

Equilateral- having all of the sides of lines even in length

Origin- the center of the circle

If you want any other words defined go to..... http://www.math.com/school/glossary/glossindex.html
it is very useful becase the terms are in "math language"

7 Theorems

Hello Fellow ClassMates,

The day started out with Mr. Maksymchuk giving us an introduction to circle geometry, we watched him construct the 7 theorems on Euklid. Neat Stuff I tell ya!

Here is a look at Theorem 1

If an angle (inscribed) in a circle intercepts a semi circle (or semi-circular arc), then the angle inscribed is a right angle.

Theorem 2

If two angles inscribed in the same circle intercept the same arc, then the angles are congruent.

Theorem 3

If an inscribed angle and a a central angle in the same circle intercept the same arc, then the measure of the central angle must be twice the measure of the inscribed angle.

Theorem 4

If in a circle, a radius or diameter intersects a chord at a right angle, then chord is bisected at the point of intersection.

Theorem 5

If a line is tangent to a circle, then the tangent line is perpendicular to the radius/diameter at the point of tangency.

Theorem 6

If tangent lines to the same circle intersect at a common external point, then the segments created from the circle to the common external point are congruent.

Theorem 7

If a quadrilateral is cyclic, then opposite angles in the quadrilateral are supplementary (have a sum of 180).

Those are the 7 Theorems we were told to know, I hope this post is helpful to everyone. Thankyou for your time.

Hey everybody, sorry im a couple days late, this is supposed to be wednesday. Today we didnt really do much just worked on learning geometry and acellerated math...anyways mr max is supposed to be back sometime next week...and thats all i got to say.

Free Homework Check Marks

Add a comment to this post and I'll give you your only homework check marks of the week....

Please answer these questions...

1. What did you do this week without your teacher? (i.e. How much of the assigned work have you completed?)

2. What have you got left for homework?

Have a great weekend, folks...RM

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

So today is are first day with out Mr Max. For next whole week we will be doing accelerated math and teaching our self circle geometry. When he gets back we need to be done up to 56 objectives by sometimes next week. If your done both circle geometry and the objectives you can do your wiki assignment on the objective you picked last week. If you don't know what objective you picked don't worry its on the wiki which objective you've picked.

Here are some website that might help you on your circle geometry:

April 16

At the start of class Mr. Max suggested to us that we should check out Tylers post on the Uganda woman on thursday, it was very informative. After we got that out of the way Mr. Max explained to us how this week is going to work with the substitute.

We are going to have to teach ourselves Geometry using old notes from previouse semesters, and using the block 5 Wiki from last semester. To find notes from last semester go to my computer- course work- Maxs math stuff- block 5 senior 3 applied.

Max gave us our assingment for the week on geometry Theorems due when he gets back next wenesday.

Canadian Food Grains Bank Presentation

In class on Thursday we were given the choice to either go to a presentation, or stay in the class and work on accelerated math. I was one of the students who decided to go to the presentation.

The Canadian Food Grains bank was putting on the presentation. The guy spoke for a few minutes telling us how it originated and how it is currently being run. After he was done talking another presenter, Nestar, began to talk. She was born in Uganda. The area that she lived in has been experiencing civil war for the last twenty or so years. Many lives in Uganda have changed due to this. People have been taken from their homes in fear of the rebels. These people are put into IDP camps. The people in the IDP camps mainly rely on foundations like the Canadian Food Grains bank. Being taken away from their land and having few ways to make money, they need food from these donation groups.

Children in Uganda have it way harder then we do. They walk twelve kilometers, twice a day, to get from their home to where they must sleep. Kids must do this because if they don’t they may get kidnapped, and become sex slaves or rebel soldiers. The children here also may not go to school. This is because most families can’t afford supplies, and even the kids who do get to go to school don’t have good learning conditions.

Nestar also talked about how Uganda is only one of the countries that is like this. Many countries in Africa are like this, along with countries like Afghanistan that are troubled by war. She also talked about how our government has promised to help cut hunger in half by 2015, and since hunger is going up, encouraged us to talk to our government officials about this problem.

hello,

First we watched a video on water buffalo. www.xe.com is the currency converter we used to see what a canadian dollar is in uganda. it was like 1546 or something like that. The wiki site is http://appliedmath.wikispaces.com/ The wiki assignment must be done by may 4th, at 3:40 pm....Also make sure that you dont put your last names or anything like that on the wiki or blog.

april 10th

Well today was a work class so there isnt much to say about the class. For one thing remember that 45 objectives are due by friday. Since i am supposed to put something useful on here i figured i might as well show everyone a trick Mr.Max showed me for a question on objective 37/38.

The question is :

Find the product (1-(1/2))(1-(1/3))(1-(1/4))....(1-(1/96))

Well it is simpler then it looks!!!

First: 1-(1/2)=1/2

1-(1/3)=2/3

1-(1/4)=3/4

If you didnt notice there is a pattern (1/2) x (2/3) x (3/4) x (4/5)...and it keeps going all the way to 1-(1/96) which equals 95/96. You can just eliminate the numbers all the way from the start of the question to the end so it everything gets cancelled out except for 1 on the top and 96 on the bottom. So the answer is 1/96.

If it is explained well enough then you can jsut ask me in person but i tryed my best to do it on here so i hope it helps.

Sorry about being late my gosh darn thing ddnt want to tork at home sorry about that but here it is we were working on a wiki thingy and it looks like it should be fine as long as nobody becomes dumb about screwing it up. thats another thing how do u think we could stop people from doing that or figuring out who did it???? It's not going to be a trick question just hink about it how we going to control that? On another note we are suppose to have 45 objectives complete before this weekend???Does anybody think thats lots or is it just me? Hope everybody had a good easter and that nobody was to rough after the weekend? anyways keep pon working hard in class and we all should get this credit. Max is a good teacher and he teach's all of us well we just have to pay attention to him! MAINLY ME! Anyways thats enough of that hope you all have a good semester and pass...OH ya how about that wiki should be a good thing but its just like another blog so i dont know do you guys think we should do this thing if its just another blog??

Work Day

Hello once again it my turn scribe. I landed on a work day so to carry on with Tyler’s conversation. I think Mr. Maksymchuk has a good point about the homework over weekends. I think it should be compulsory we should get extra marks for doing homework or else I wouldn’t bother to do it. I don’t mean 40 questions a night I mean between 5 and 10. Just enough to do for half an hour and should be checked every other day. It also is a good way to see if we understand because some students are to nervous to ask questions to see whether students understand the lesson. Also don’t forget we have to have in the mid 40s in accelerated math by the end of next week. Ponty your scribe on Monday.

April 4th 2007,

We started out this class by doing mental math, Mr Max talked to us a bit about homework and why he assigns it to us and we talked for a bit about Tylers post.
We then got into the work that was assigned to us yesterday

We continued linear Progamming and looked at some examples on the sheet that he gave us on monday.

Mr. Max showed us which formula you should check.. he said that you should use the formula that you were given in case you made any mistakes.

He then showed us how to know which side to shade, by taking the original equation and choosing a point on the grid that isnt included on the line, the substitute the points in for x and y. After you have figured out the (?>=?) or (?<=?). If it is true then you shade in direction that you chose.

Heres an example ^... so then the graph would look like....

We looked at more problems in the hand out

We were assigned #4 on page D-9 for homework tomorrow.
Dont Forget

inequality graphing

Today in class we learned about 2-D inequality graphing, graphing rules, and the basic 1-D number line graphing

The picture below is the 2-D inequality graphing and also the graphing rules...

This is the 1-D number line graphing.. Mr. Maks showed us how to do them and how to figure them out on a graph with out using technology

You can do these kinds of questions of graphmatica, this is how it looks...

This is how you can figure it out just on paper and with this question we found out that "0" will not work because "0" is not greater then then 6... so then you would have to shade the boundary away from the origin

And this was the homework that Mr. Mak's had assigned us to do...

Test Day!

I'm going to start off by apologizing to my classmates. This post is really late, and there probably isn't a really good excuse for it. I just forgot about it entirely, and I feel bad about that. So yes, I’m sorry.

Well on the day I was supposed to scribe we wrote a test. It was a unit test on Systems of Linear Equations. As you all know on a test day you are supposed try to come up with something useful, and meaningful for our blog. In class we had a small discussion about whether or not homework over a break, such as Spring Break or Christmas Break, is worthwhile. Certain people have certain opinions about this topic. I searched the internet for some opinions, and here are some that I found.

http://www.toddseal.com/rodin/2006/01/homework-during-break/

The link above takes you to a site where a teacher has made a post about their preference not to give homework over breaks. The teacher backs this up by saying how most students do not do their work until the last minute, or even attempt their work. He also goes on to talk about how he himself doesn't like to do very much work over breaks himself, so how can he force his students too? Other teachers have commented with their opinions, along with some other interesting people who thought it was necessary to leave some pretty moot comments.

http://stophomework.com/the-case-against-homework

This second link is actually an article about a book that has been written about homework. It tells a little about the book and talks about too much homework possibly being connected to obesity, and a reason why kids are not as active anymore.

My final part of this post will be to leave you with this poll. The question is "Do you think the homework over a break is worthwhile? Please give me your input, and feel free to leave comments as you please, keeping in mind that this is a class blog and must be appropriate for school.

Homework Over A Break?
Do you think that homework over a break is worthwhile?

Yes
No

Once again I would like to apologize to my classmates about this post being so late, but I hope you guys will take a look at it, and participate in the poll.

Monday,April 2

At the start of class, we did the 14th mental math quiz. Here are the questions and answers for the quiz:
Today we started a new unit on linear programming. The big idea of this unit is to use graphs and technology to solve problems involving inequality relationships, always having to find the best solution for each problem.
Here is the example that we did in class:
A zoo is given a sum of money to spend on monkeys and rabbits. The zoo must spend at least $2000 on the purchase to qualify for the grant. At least 14 animals must be bought. Each rabbit costs $40.00 and each monkey costs $400.00.
c) What is the best way the zoo can spend the money?
d) Suppose that it costs $1.00 per day to feed a rabbit and $5.00 per day to feed a monkey. Write the cost equation. How much will it cost to feed all the rabbits and monkeys they purchase?
40x+400y>=2000 Therefore the answer is 4 monkeys and 10 rabbits
40(10)+400(4)=2000
5(4)+1(10)=30 Therefore the answer is $30 to feed the monkeys and rabbits.
We verified on graphmatica that our answer was correct because it was the most critical point.

This unit is mostly going to be solving problems with skills that we may already know, but just improving on them.

To find the absolute value on your calculator, you press 2nd, then zero, and it is the first one on there-abs.
In graphmatica you just type in abs and put the letter or number in brackets.

On tuesdays Mr. Max is here until 4:30 for extra help if needed!

The objectives that have to be mastered are 32-45ish.

Test Review

Hellooooo Block 3 Classmates this is your captain speaking,

We started off a great class of math with a challenging mental math which I'm not going to lie I did horrible on. Then Mr. Max showed us what kind of t.v he watches after he teaches last night he watched discovery channel. He showed us an interesting sky scraper that is enormous.

Then we had the opportunity to ask for help on Word Problems. Mr. Max took us through some steps to show us how to do them.

Word Problem 1

In this picture we simply made our question turn into an x and a y from the information given to us in the question

This is a image from graphmatica that shows where our lines cross which shows the amount of time Gilbert and Chris drove.

Word Problem 2

We found out how much money Mrs. Garcia put into her accounts.

Word Problem 3

We found the amount of litres of water we had to combine with the 6 litres of the 80% solution to make the 24% solution.

After we were done working with the word problems we talked about what was going to be on the test and went over some questions that we will see on the test.
