Test Review

Hellooooo Block 3 Classmates this is your captain speaking,

We started off a great class of math with a challenging mental math which I'm not going to lie I did horrible on. Then Mr. Max showed us what kind of t.v he watches after he teaches last night he watched discovery channel. He showed us an interesting sky scraper that is enormous.

Then we had the opportunity to ask for help on Word Problems. Mr. Max took us through some steps to show us how to do them.

Word Problem 1

In this picture we simply made our question turn into an x and a y from the information given to us in the question

This is a image from graphmatica that shows where our lines cross which shows the amount of time Gilbert and Chris drove.

Word Problem 2

We found out how much money Mrs. Garcia put into her accounts.

Word Problem 3

We found the amount of litres of water we had to combine with the 6 litres of the 80% solution to make the 24% solution.

After we were done working with the word problems we talked about what was going to be on the test and went over some questions that we will see on the test.

March 20/07 Word Problems

These are some examples of word problems that we did in class today hopefully this stuff helps you towards passing more objectives. We were suppose to have 36 objectives completed but now we have changed it o 31 before spring break...Our test got moved to thursday's class. Most likely reviewing in class tomorrow...but wow im hungry im out

March 19, 2007

Today we had a substitute teacher (Mr. Reechai). I don’t know how to spell his name and I didn’t bother asking. The test is scheduled for Wednesday… so I’m just going to go over some review for the test. If you have forgotten what the types of systems there are then I will tell you. The first system is a Consistent system and will have an ordered pair solution. The next system is the Inconsistent system that will have no solution because the lines never cross. The last system will be the Dependent system that can have an infinite amount of solutions because the lines are superimposed and are always crossed.

I have also found some good links to website’s that may help you in prepping for the test.

Well that is my post and I have no idea who the scribe is for tomorrow.

Friday, March 16, 2007

Well i started the day by doing a little accelerated math, so i finished an exercise and for some reason it wouldn't scan. So after a little bit we figured out that was an old exercise i already did and so i wasted about 45 mins of my time. Some people were asking about the questions with the fly and the spider. So here we go.

Ex. The length and width of a room are both 12m. The height is 3m. A fly, on the ceiling in a corner, sees a crumb on the floor in the diagonally opposite corner. If the crumb does not moves, what is the shortest distance, to the nearest tenth of a meter, the fly can travel to reach the crumb?

Well i would start buy doing the a^2+b^2=c^2 with the base and the do it with the side and the diagonal of the base to get the answer which is 17.2.

Thursday 15
We started the class with mental math.

Then we discussed about what our scribes should look like. We came to the conclusion that we have to dig deeper and put more thought into our scribing. You can go back and fix your older scribes to get a better mark.
We now also have a minimum of 36 objectives that have to be done before spring break.

Remember we also have a test on Wednesday March 21.

Scribe Post Marks

Before I start marking scribe posts, you should each really consider this, and since you can always go back and edit what you've done, please do so by the end of the week, so that you don't get a poor mark on what you've done so far. I have high expectations, and I'm encouraging you folks to live up to them...

so, again, READ THIS, especially points numbered 5 and 6...and if you want to see what I think a really good post looks like, here's a recent example:

Check out this post

Pay attention to your responsibilities to your classmates, and consider that the conversations we're having here on the blog are conversations among all of us, not just one-way to me, or one-way to you as students...

What mark out of a possible 10 points so far would you give yourself, based on the rules linked above? Think carefully, and make appropriate changes...

I don't really no what to say im not a very helpful person...but these work periods and sub days are good cuz it gives you time to catch up on stuff you need to do or work your behind on. But in some ways these class are harder cuz if you need help we can't really ask the sub and your not here so sometimes it gets a little frusterating. But all in all its pretty good and this year should be a good one in math!!

march 13th

We started off with mental math.
Then we went to www.poly.com and looked at some weird shapes.
Reminder that we are invited to interviews with our parents.
3 types of solutions
1)consistent- on solution (lines cross)
2)inconsistent-no solution(parallel)
3)dependent(ant)-infinetly many solutions-superimposed lines-(on top of eachother)

0=29- NO SOLUTION
0=0,1=1,2=2,etc....-INFINETLY MANY SOLUTIONS

TEST

Well I’m finally doing my scribe better late then never. I landed on a test day so I don’t really know what to write about something meaning full so all I can thing of is the vice president is Dick Cheney that was the bonus question .And keep on doing accelerated math.

March 12 2007

Today I am scribing for Brittany13 because she has hurt her foot.

At the start of class Max set a test date for Wednesday the 21st but he might change the date if we run out of work to do. After we got settled down Max taught us about the second method of solving systems “The Elimination Method”

Here are the steps to solving using the elimination method:

Steps

1 Chose a variable (either one works but one is better to work with then the other)

2 Use multiplication or division to make BOTH coefficients the same (or opposite) in the two coefficients

3 Add or Subtract the entire variable from the expression by causing it not to exist through arithmetic

4 Solve the left over variable

5 Proceed as with solution method

Here are the steps I outlined above.

The class created an example that Max took us step through step on how to do it.

Im still a little sketchy with the substitution method.

Friday March 9th 2007

Today at the start of class we did some mental math. We did a survey and most people are getting arround 50%.

Mr.Max did a homwork check for those who were curling yesterday and then we had some time to do Accelerated math.

Here is a link to a "diffy" puzzle (I hope it works) What your supposed to do is put any four numbers into the four boxes in the corners. In the boxes between the two numbers you put the difference of the two numbers. Continue until the puzzle is completed. The objective is to make the four numbers in the middle not zero's. http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/frames_asid_326_g_2_t_1.html
(find 4 numbers that work for monday)

The rest of the class was for accelerated math.

Brittany 13 you are posting tomorrow.

Thursday, March 8, 2007

So, today I'm taking over Captain Kolan's scribe today since he's gone curling with some of our other classmates. So, firstly we started of doing homework check. Then he told us how many objectives we have on Accelerated Math. Then it was a work period for the rest of the class.

So if you don't know how to do the exponential question for Accelerated Math. This is one way you can do it. You are given a question like this:

During 1991, 180000 people visited Rave Amusement Park. During 1995, the number had grown to 412000. Write an exponential growth function that models this data.

So firstly, you need to go to your calculator and go to stat plot and put this in you L1 0 for 1991 then you put the difference better your years below it, so it would be 4. Then you go to L2 and put in 180000 across from 0 and, then you put 412000 across from 4.

Then you turn on your stat plot.

You go your Y= button and type in your a)y=180000e^0.207x and b) and so on. But to do this quick look at your answer given. If it doesn't have the right number of people going to the park its wrong like c) it has y=232000e^.207x, so its wrong. A) is right because it has 180000 in it.

Then you Press second trace and type in the year difference. If it is close to the second number that it gave you its right. Example: It gives you 412000 and if it close to it, it's right. Example you get 411999, so you round it to 412000.

Mr. Max says label your posts! Please

THOUGHTS

Well. So far I was thinking about how this semester is going. I enjoy this class, its small, and we could get alot of work done. It's actually going fast..
Anyways, we're happy you actually enjoy teaching us Max.

words of wisdom..hehe

Football Prices

Hey, this is our work we did on the problem or question we had solve. We used excel to solve it.
Mr W. should sell his tickets for $13 per ticket to make more profit then Mr.White. If he sells 83 tickets he would be behind him by 1$ and then if he sells 84 tickets he will be 2 dollars up on Mr.White.

Systems of linear equations

March 7/07

Hello class, first we did mental math. Then the sytem went down kinda.

We were supposed to put the answers on the blog for the football question but i think like 2 or 3 people did. then he said "two things equal to the same things are themselves equal" or something along those lines as he taught us substituting. The substituting had 4 steps. There was actualy 5 steps but the last one was check your answers.

football ticket prices

For the football team we calculated that the football team should charge $13 per ticket to beable to beat the basketball team.

Assuming that more than 502 people come to the banquet then the football team will beat the basketball team. The formua used for the football column was (# of tickets)x13-750. We assumed that the cost to put on the banquet was 750 dollars. For the basketball team the equation was (# of tickets)x12.50-500 assuming the banquet costs 500 dollars to put on. And y and hilary did it.

March 2, 2007

We began the class with what we do every class, Mental Math. After the Mental Math was done the class moved on to learning about Systems of Equations. There are 3 possible solutions. The first solution is called an ordered pair solution, were the parabola's cross. This is called a Consistent System. The next system is called an Inconsistent System, this includes parallel lines that never cross leaving this system with no solution. The third and last system is called the Dependent System. The Dependent System has superimposed lines (one line on top of the other), there are an infinite amount of solutions for both lines.
Also, questions 1-3 on page C-3 in the new package we had been given today must be done for homework. P.S. Richie48 is the next scribe.
In Thursdays class we had a question about how to make the football team make more than the basketball team so we jacked up the price to get in to $15 it worked out that at 100 people the profit was equal. So as long as the attendance for the banquets is over 100, the football team will have a higher profit. Other things that you have to consider is that who is to say that the attendance's will be equal?

Example Problem Advice

So, what should happen? The Rules: The Hall rentals are fixed, and the football coach is trying to manipulate ticket prices to generate greater revenue than the basketball coach. Make some recommendations. Extra marks for creativity...(but you still have to have the math...)

Have fun!

Linear System Intro

Today in math class we did the introduction to Linear Systems of equations. This first page is how they work.

This page is examples of linear systems.

Here is the question for homework, post yer results on the blog at 12:00 tomorrow back your answers up with math.
Give the football coach some advice about ticket prices. (ie. what should he set his ticket price at?)
* keep in mind that you may loose sales if the ticket prices are too high
